Here's a quick quiz for Stay-At-Home and/or unemployed types -

Valentine's Day. If you're not bringing in any money, do you buy your sweetheart a gift? I mean, considering the fact that you're using "their" money to purchase it? Or do you just crib something together crafty-like (and therefore free)?

I vote for crafty! Or find a babysitter who'll accept foodstuffs in lieu of pay, get them to bring the child to THEIR place, and let you and your sweetie enjoy the night at home alone.

Lingerie and candles optional.

I am a Valentines scrooge. Not only do I not do anything, but if hubby does get me flowers I will be pissed off that he wasted the money. To me, flowers mean more (and cost less) on any other day of the year. And I was the same back in the olden days when I was earning money too.
If I was feeling romantic then I might make sure I made for dinner something he loved and I don't make often, either cos I don't like it or it's alot of trouble to make. And put the bub to bed early.

Get something you will both like. Nice bottle of wine, or sexy lingerie...

James has never, NEVER bitched about the money I spend on lingerie, even when money was tight and I wasn't making any. I use Valentine's Day as an excuse to go out and get myself something fun and indulgent.

I make yummy foods. I don't need to buy stuff, other than ingredients. Besides, it's totally a Hallmark holiday. Make up your own ritual!

Wait, isn't being allowed to TOUCH me a gift?
