How about that Obama speech, huh?

Just a mini post today. Someone (I'm not saying who... but it was me) was up way too late watching history being made. The man is a genius and I'm ready to go Barak To The Future but at the risk of being laughed out of the blogosphere, I'm starting to feel a little sorry for Bush. How miserable must it be to hear people - even your fellow Republicans - doing everything they can to disassociate themselves from you? Constantly hearing what a waste your Presidency was, how ANYTHING is better than what we have now.... Believe me, I can find fault with the man but not all of this economic awfulness is his fault, just like the boom during the 90's wasn't all Clinton. (I really feel bad for his poor father who, by all accounts, is a pretty decent man. Did you see the hearing when Bush, Sr. started tearing up when talking how hard it is to be President? Heartbreaking.) I can't imagine what it feels like to have the entire world mocking you. Hell, I barely made it through Junior High.

Anybody else feeling weird about feeling weird?

NOT. AT. ALL.
President Bush has smeared this country around the world, screwed the planet, and completely ignored the constitution of the US. And he has done it with great arrogance.
When you complain about health insurance, and toxic food for your baby.... who is responsible for ignoring these issues and making people who care about such things 'left wing idiots.

I hear ya, anonymous. Feeling less guilty already...

And he doesn't accept culpability for any of his wrongdoings. If he had, that might be a different story. He has mocked the press and acted like the rest of us don't deserve to know what is going on with our own elected officials. He and his administration have been downright hostile and lied to the press, and broken many laws. Not only that, he should be dragged in front of a war crimes tribunal for the torture he and his administration advocate. The man is a criminal. Seriously, The WORST president in history.
Okay, i'll stop now.

I agree. W's only positive contribution will be that his presidency makes all the others look much better.
As far as his feelings... he's the kind of guy who will get over it far too quickly. If he had the compassion to care he would have changed stripes a few years ago. Instead, literally lives and limbs continue to be lost. He just doesn't care. (I do feel sad for his daughters.)

Okay... now I'm concerned with McCain picking an overly fertile, former beauty queen who hates Polar Bears. Seriously. You couldn't make this stuff up. No one would believe it.

Bush is a criminal and should be brought to the Hauge. He is not only responsible for all those terrible damages to America, he also is responsible for the DEATH of HUNDREDS of thousands of people. He should be prosecuted. He has committed genocide.

This VP candidate of McCain's is so unqualified! This is an irresponsible choice. People say OBAMA doesn't have experience???!!!! OMG!
This woman was the mayor of a 7,000 person town 5 years ago, and now they want her to be the VP for an OLD GUY with HEALTH PROBLEMS.

Again McCain is showing REALLY questionable judgement. CAN'T WAIT to see the debate between her and Biden.

Trouble is, Biden has to be careful about going too hard on her or he'll be accused of beating her up. Oy.

Her "18,000 cracks in the glass ceiling line" is great, I'll give her that. That said, I guarantee that Michelle Obama will have a hell of a lot more power in the White House than Sarah Palin will. (And if that 3 am call comes and Michelle Obama happens to answer the phone, I'd be perfectly fine with that. The more brains in the White House, the better!)

It is yet another insult from McCain that he thinks he can choose this woman and just because she's a woman all the women will vote for her. Jesus.

I am glad I was not the only person who found his choice offensive. I was not a Hillary Clinton supporter, but even if I had been this chick is not the woman who would have changed my vote over to McCain. I don't care how many Moose she has shot. I am offended that someone would think that my choice to vote had to do solely with gender and not issues.

I'm sure W appreciates your sympathy. Hell, he barely made it through junior high, too.

ZING!

Nice one, Jeff. Nice one.

Hey Ali, Maybe I'm another softie, I understand the almost-sympathy for Bush, so it just means you are a much better than he is, since he hasn't thought about you for at least 8 years....

On the one hand he doesn't deserve it and on the other hand (maybe a buddha hand? A christ hand? a zoroaster hand?) he needs a hell of a lot more....

Obama did remind us to put ourselves in other people's (warmongering, German chancellor massage-giving) shoes...

I was starting to feel sorry for McCain too - this pick is going to be the end of him, I fear - until the pundits said that he went against his advisers and chose her freely. I thought he had been forced into it out of Republican party desperation, but nope. I just hope that the public is smart enough to see her for what he is - the equivalent of a pat on the head to American women.

Whereas Clinton could always be expected to give women a pat on the keister.

I'm with Anon. Bush sucks and deserves everything he gets, karmically and otherwise. I only feel bad for his daughters in theory - they, being wealthy and related to power, will never want for anything in life, no matter how ridiculous or controlled. Should Roe v. Wade get struck down and all abortions become illegal, guaranteed that should those girls be in need of an operation THEY'LL still be able to get it.

And their families won't even bat an eye. That's the part that bugs me so much about running for prez here in the States - you HAVE to show religious fervor, whether you feel it or not. I am so ready for W. to no longer be in the White House and am dearly hoping that THIS election isn't electronically stolen from us as the last one was.

What I still don't understand is this: WHAT, exactly, was said to Kerry that made him not fight for the presidency and roll over the day after the election was over? Why wasn't it important enough to march down to Ohio and investigate the claims? Hmm? Damn!

Oh, as for Palin, if that wasn't the most obvious decision - "Let's get a woman VP!" they've ever made! Then again, Repubs aren't known for their great respect of the womenfolk. Anyone remember Quayle? HE was chosen because he looked "cute" and vaguely like Robert Redford. HE was supposed to bring out the female voters as well. Just because he was CUTE.

Yeah. Repubs have great respect for female voters.

Personally, I wish Obama had chosen someone like Boxer, though. Instead we have the shiny new guy and an old white guy. Sigh.
